This is a beautiful book that inspires on many levels. Unlike many depictions of modern Israeli culture, this book reflects the broad array of peoples that make up today's Israel. It is about as inclusive a vision of modern Israel as you can get. The crafts depicted are also really interesting, and they made me think in new ways about traditional craft forms. Finally, the production of the book - the paper, binding, layout, and the amazing photography - seem like a craft in itself. This book is just beautiful to hold in your hands.Full disclosure: I am a relative of the author, and I received one copy as a gift, but was so impressed by it that I then bought another copy to gift to a friend. I will be buying more - even my sons' schoolteachers asked for a copy. Just a warning, this book will draw you in and make you want more...

This beautiful book, at first glance, is the perfect coffee table book, the book that calls out to be picked up and glanced through as the detailed photography pulls one in, and then, set back down. Yet, it is so much more than that. The unique stories of each artist and craft stand alone and allow this book to be picked up for short reads, put back down, pondered,and picked up again for more individual stories as time allows. In today's busy life, I love that I can revisit this book in sections, which are woven together in an informative portrait of the modern artisan culture in Israel. Anyone interested in artisan culture or life in Israel will love this book.
